LAUSD Miguel Contreras Learning Center

This project involved the re-development of over 19 acres in West Central Los Angeles, creating a new academic and athletic complex that benefits multiple local high schools and the Los Angeles community. The educational portion of the project includes an auditorium, two classroom wings, library, multi-media labs, cafeteria, and a parking structure. The athletic complex is on the other side of the street and includes a stadium, Olympic sized swimming pool and multiple competition and athletic fields. NYA designed a bridge to run above the street connecting the two halves to make both pieces easily accessible.
The classroom wings have open air vertical circulation stairs, and a floating corrugated steel roof which allows for protection from inclement weather, but also provides natural ventilation. Multiple courtyards and outdoor spaces are also placed throughout the project.
