Project Description / Overview

The BAPS Temple is a single-story Hindu temple with a full above-ground basement that uses base isolation for protection in the event of an earthquake. The building is constructed of concrete floor and roof, CMU walls, stone ceilings, beams, and columns. It has steeple and dome structures that extend from the roof. The design integrates ancient Hindu Shilpashastras (traditional Indian construction techniques) with modern seismic construction methods. Indian craftspeople were brought to the site to carve all the exterior and interior stone of the temple.
